Store owner takes pity, gives tearful would-be... →
On may 21, a man with a bat and a mask on his face entered the Shirley Express convenience store about 65 miles east of New York City, and came up to the owner, dropped the bat and fell to the floor. The man “started crying like a baby”. While on the floor, he confessed he was just a poor man trying to feed his family. The owner showed mercy, and let the man leave with $40 and a...

My Documentary Experience
I enjoyed creating my essay, because it required the information to sink in, so I wasn’t just creating a essay off of a random information source, I was actually learning. Also, since I am such a computer guy, I loved working with iLife ‘08, because of it’s new media browser sharing mechanism. And, there’s more, I loved the project in general, because it is...
CSL Weekly Call to Action 6/7
When the movie Slumdog Millionaire was made, the young actor from a slum in India returned home. He didn’t return home to home. Soon after his arrival back at the Slum, the entire slum was bulldozed, without any warning ahead of time, and the same happened to twelve other slums. Although, the cons of the new digs may outweigh the pros. The Shinde family from one of the twelve bulldozed...

This article, “Homeless Soccer Team Roots for New Life”, is about a team of soccer players, each with degrees from adequate colleges and most working at The Royal Bank of Canada. Although, the one thing they all share, their home address: 1 Wards Island; a homeless shelter. Lawrence Cann, a former nationally ranked soccer player at Davidson College, thought up the idea to gather...

CSL Weekly Call to Action 4/7
This article covers the topic of bankruptcy and car manufacturers, mainly Chrysler. Chrysler just filed for bankruptcy, and expects 1,000 dealerships to go out of business as an effect of the restructuring plan. I do have a couple of quotes to share from this article. “We bite our tongues and say, can you be more realistic? A lot of people hear the word bankruptcy and think worst-case...

Thank You, Rob
Thank you for supporting me in math. I went into a slump, and you pulled me out. You have been able to create a perfect balance of seriousness and laughter to the classroom. You have taught me very well how to go on my own without having to rely on the teacher for everything. That is a life skill that one cannot live without. I am easily ready to move on because of you, and now with a skill I...

Some of The Kinder Planets
Tim Wynn-Jones, the author of the book Some of The Kinder Planets, expressed his very unique writing style in this book. In this book, he would express a point in a way that nobody else could just think up. Here is one analogy, The Simpsons. Tim Wynn-Jones has a mind similar to that of the creators of the show The Simpsons, in the way that he thinks of what he wants to happen, and works...

"Developing countries hit harder by global crisis" →
In Harry Dunphy’s article, “Developing countries hit harder by global crisis”, he explains how terribly the economic crisis has impacted expanding countries or territories. First off, he explains how one of the big factors in this impact is the money flow. A country similar to America has citizens who depend on their currency to survive, using it to buy food and supplies. Well, the big part of...

Life Skills Call to Action 19
When I was playing at a friend’s house, I realized his sister was not happy. I did not say anything, but she lashed out at me. Later that day, I was going home and she thought it was her fault. She yelled to me that she was sorry as I was almost home (they live less than a block away from my house), and I told her that she was being too hard on herself (I did tell her that straight forward),...

ALHOTW
This is a great book for anyone enthusiastic about history. Or, if you’re not one of those people, don’t worry. The original author, E. H. J. Gombrich, has made this a fun read even if you aren’t just researching general history. He covers everything from pre-history to the mid-1900’s in great detail, including the Greeks, Romans, Phoenicians and many more. Not one part...

"Poverty is Poison" →
From my view, the title of this article, “Poverty is Poison” summarizes it rather well. The article states that neuroscientists have researched the stress factor of poverty. The article states that a child in poverty experiences such a large amount of stress hormones that it impairs their neural development, which makes it harder to escape poverty when the child grows up. Paul Krugman, the...

The History Behind Easter
Easter is a very important religious feast of Christian devotion. This holiday celebrates the resurrection of Christ three days after his death. Christ did not die of natural causes, but instead he was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate, who was the judge at Jesus’ trial. Jesus was betrayed by one of disciples, Judas, after he claimed that he was God’s son (which was true), and...
Fast And Furious
I viewed this movie yesterday, in the del mar highlands AMC 12 I believe. The movie was generally geared toward 13-16 year olds, although it could have been almost PG, for there was minimal adult language, and beside from that just fights (you could have guessed the fights.) 2.25 Stars overall.

Where the Wild Things Are
This movie looks good, but I have to say it could have had special effects, not costumes for the monsters (I know they did that on purpose.) Also, the storyline was very mature for the book that it was based on; a little less geared toward five-six year olds. Overall, I still can say even I might like it.

1. One Community Service Project that we could do is start a fund. Not a huge fund, but a money drive that could raise some extra cash for a TBD organization.

3. Send groups with one teacher per group, rotating through the class to...

Alexander The Great II (Revision)
Alexander The Great had an approach to ruling the world that is very unique when compared to others of his era. His approach was so different because he wanted to mix cultures and beliefs, and others wanted to just conquer and convert people into their own beliefs. This also helped him to conquer opposing kingdoms or take newly discovered areas, because he could gain the trust of the kingdom...

What are your opinions of the Circle Justice system?
The Circle Justice System is a good way to manage situations like the one in the book. This is good because there does not have to be a judge to say, “ORDER IN THE COURT!” and everyone that attends the meeting can speak their opinion. In what ways is it a better alternative than the system of justice we use?
This is better than our court...

Alexander The Great
1. Alexander deserves an entire chapter because he has an odyssey all his own. He made such an impact on the world, and at one point literally ruled half the globe. Also, he was so wise and also needed part of a chapter devoted to him and Aristotle. He destroyed several cultures, enslaving and taking the land. Also, he was so modest about all of his accomplishments; he even gave away almost...

Alexander The Great had an approach to ruling the world that is very unique when compared to others of his era. His approach was so different because he wanted to mix cultures and beliefs. This also helped him to conquer newly discovered (for him), because he could gain the trust of the kingdom by pretending he was something that he wasn’t. He may have developed this idea of the combination of...

Greek Inventions
Between 500 B.C. and now, there may have been many changes to politics, battles and art, but we all have to thank the greeks (woo!) for the origin of these subjects. Art in that time, to sum up ALHOTW’s description, was natural and beautiful. They could create things that blow our minds. We think of 2009 modern art as the most amazing thing, but to those people, I say prepare to be...
